On the heels of the Spring equinox, with golden hour pouring in through the windows and washing the wood beamed walls in warm light, we attended the ACM Trailblazers: Women of Country event. No location could be more fitting than the archeological feast for the eyes, The Fontanel Mansion, a sprawling 33,000 sq. ft. slice of Music City heritage that country music icon, Barbara Mandrell once called home. Today, the estate is a gorgeously preserved venue, hosting events and weddings.
Myself and my beau, Jason W. Ashcraft of JWA Media, were among the attendees which included a mix of ACM members, songwriters, and industry professionals, including country songbird, Caylee Hammack and Ashley McBryde, who serenaded the crowd with songs from her new album, "Wild." Giving a nod to Mandrell's legacy, which was shared on brief tours through the property, McBryde also sang “I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool.”
No surprises here - she absolutely captivated the crowd. The second she struck her first note, a hush fell over the room and every eye was glued to the stage, (I even saw some tears, understandably so!) set beneath one of Mandrell's many “Juliette balconies," which she allegedly greeted her guests from.
McBryde stayed after her performance for a meet and greet. Of course we had to snag a photo and let her know how much we admire her songs and career.
A tasty charcuterie spread awaited guests (and I made sure to indulge in two plates, because your girl likes to eat), filled with dips, meats, cheeses, fruits, and artisanal breads. I enjoyed a refreshing glass of High Noon on ice, as we mixed and mingled with fellow songwriters and music industry folks, and made new friends and connections as well.
It was a night to remember!
